hosted by the Venture Capital Incentive Programme (VCIP) of Trinidad & Tobago, was recently held at the Grenada Grand Resort, Grenada on June 2-3, 2005.
For the sixth year, Venturepoint, the signature event of VCIP, brought together investors, entrepreneurial companies, industry practitioners and other interest groups to treat with issues, which impact the development of regional business activity. The session reflects VCIP’s continued vision for a well-developed regional small and medium enterprises sector. The conference was held in Grenada this year, as a means of boosting the recovery process of the island through emphasizing issues relevant to small and medium enterprise development.
In delivering the feature address, Dr. the Honorable Keith Mitchell, Prime Minister of Grenada, praised the efforts of VCIP. He stated that Venture Point reiterated the importance of Public/Private Sector partnerships and sought to recognize that development was not just in the hands of a few stakeholders, but was the responsibility of all citizens. He also stated that this project was another example of the Government and people of Trinidad and
Tobago and Grenada working together. He went on to say that his government is heartened by the support that has come from Trinidad, not only in the form of relief but also in sustainable programmes like the Venture Point initiative.
In her welcome address, Judith Mark, Chief Executive and Administrator of the VCIP highlighted the need for an integrated approach by stakeholders in SME development. She further reminded participants of the importance of the informal sector and the need to develop entrepreneurship within communities to foster continued social and economic growth.
A wide cross section of topics ranging from disaster preparedness, to the effects of the CSME, as well as growth opportunities were presented by industry specialists from across the region. Click here to access Speaker Presentations.
